Challenging the acquittal of Sabauddin Ahmed in 26/11 case,a government counsel today alleged that he was area commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Nepal and among its key conspirators,apart from being involved in terror attacks in Bangalore and on CRPF camp in UP. Government counsel Ujjwal Nikam was arguing on an appeal filed by the state in the Bombay High Court against the order of trial court acquitting Sabauddin and Faheem Ansari on the ground that evidence against them was doubtful. Alleging that Sabauddin and Faheem were among the key conspirators and close associates of LeT leaders,Nikam said the duo had prepared maps of target locations in Mumbai to help terrorists in executing the November 2008 attacks. Sabauddin was an area commander of Nepal and an active member of Pakistan-based LeT,Nikam alleged. Sabauddin and 26/11 absconding accused Abu Hamza had organised a deadly attack on scientists by firing and hurling hand grenades at them during a meeting of Indian Institute of Sciences in Bangalore on December 28,2005,he alleged. The sole surviving Pakistani terrorist,Ajmal Kasab,who was sentenced to death in 26/11 case,had in his confession before a magistrate referred to Hamza as one of the key conspirators. Nikam said Sabauddin had also attacked a CRPF camp at Rampur,Uttar Pradesh,on January 1,2008 in which eight persons were killed. In this case,Sabauddin,Faheem and two Pakistani nationals were arrested on February 28,2008. An AK-47 rifle was seized from Sabuddin,while a pistol of Pakistani make,maps of Mumbai locations and a Pakistani passport were seized from Faheem,he said.
