Delhi High Court today threw out two petitions against the game show Sach ka Saamna, saying “moral policing” was not its job, and advised those offended by the show to turn off their TVs.

The judges slammed the petition as an example of the “misuse” of public interest litigation and, going a step ahead, also ridiculed the “hypocrisy of various ministers and parliamentarians” over deciding broadcasting law and television content.

“In this land of Gandhi, it appears that nobody follows Gandhi... Follow the Gandhian principle of ‘see no evil’. Why do you not simply switch off the TV?” a division bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan told the petitioners.

“We have very good advice for you. You have got two judges sitting here who do not watch TV at all. It will certainly help.”

Individual ideas of morality were not the business of the court, the judges said. “We are not sitting here for moral policing... You approach the Parliament and get the remedy. The courts cannot be expected to deal with issues that involve different individual perceptions.”

The plea by petitioners Deepak Maini and Prabhat Kumar was an “example of how PILs are being misused” in a country that faces “several far more serious problems”, the bench said. “Let the government decide whether the programme is to be banned or not. We are not getting into it.”

To the contention that the show — in which contestants are asked ‘objectionable’ questions in front of family and friends — was against the culture of India, the court said: “Our culture is not so fragile that it will be affected by one TV show. Moreover, nobody in his individual capacity can be allowed to take upon the social order and ask for directions.”

    ... contd.

wat is exactly indian culture??can anyone define it exactly????By: priyambada | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward I totally appreciate wat our judges told..india already has so many big and important problems to solve,so getting into such things could be a waste of time leaving behind actual relevant problems like helping the poor and bringing up the nation's poverty level..watching a show or not is one's complete own will..if u dont wanna see it,y impose it on others not to see it as well..and people talking about indian culture and traditions, now who will decide the terms and conditions of wat exactly the indian culture is..people say we cant do dis cant do dat cos dis doesnt fit the indian culture but we all know everyone does wat they want to ,if not legally then illegally all do it..politicians rather than raising such issues,if they try doing there jobs honestly(i mean without doing corruption),then india wud actually solve loads of its problems as we wil have money to solve real issues(which goes into politician pockets otherwise)..regarding the show,we can switch channels if u dont like it
Kind attention of Radhey Gupta and Pallavi Singh.By: Naresh Saraf | 04-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward I dont see any meaning in comparing this show with walking nude in the streets. There is a huge gap between the two issues. You got to understand one thing. Saying a truth is not limited to cultures. Its your personal thing. Culture, color, region doesn't come into this stream at all. This show is all about your guts to accept the truths in your life. As the verdict says, if you don't like it, just turn off your tv or switch to other channel which shows traditional Indian cultures like Rakhi ki swamyamwar..:) There isn't any obscenity in this show. Its purely personal which the contestant has no problem sharing in front of the cameras. Love, happy, sad, cry, sex, lust, laugh..etc..they are all same for all cultures. You just cant rule out adultery in Indian culture(in case if questions relating to adultery is bothering you). Its in many places..I am not here to convince you to watch the show. Just want to make sure that you dont tune into that channel whenever the show is on air. Thanks
TruthBy: yaman behl | 02-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Who d hell says dat dis game s nt rit people are somewhere right but it shln't be banned coz dis shows that how bad can people think.................... we don't want to see this show because we fear of truth............

Lost OpportunityBy: Radhey Gupta | 01-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward I think the courts have lost a great opportunity to correct the course for the Indian culture to be put back on the righteousness. Sach ka Saamna is not for Indians. We are not like the Amiricans or Europeans. The Western Culture is based on materialism while the Indian culture is on the spiritualism. The difference being that we go within to look for our mistakes, thats inherent in us. The honourable judges verdict that we should switch off TV's if we do not like to watch it does not fit very well. Its like saying I have a right to walk naked on the streets and anybody who does not like can close their eyes. Shame on such a verdict. Even in France where women were allowed topless has now banned such rights and its an offence to be topless on beaches. Dear Honourable Judges do not join the mad rush to follow blind race to copy Western culture. weterners find the Indian culture better and basis for a peaceful happy life
