Sachan’s wife asks for rejection of CBI closure report

Around two months after the CBI filed a closure report, stating that former Deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan had committed suicide and was not murdered inside the jail on June 22 last year, his wife Malti Sachan, complainant of the case, filed a protest application in the CBI court on Saturday.

According to Malti's lawyer V K Shahi, in her protest application, Malti Sachan has requested the court to reject the closure report and order further investigation. Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Neel Kant Mani Tripathi fixed December 15 for hearing.

Malti Sachan stated that agency placed strong reliance on doctors of AIIMS who prepared the report merely on the basis of perusal of photographs and video footage. But it completely ignored the post mortem report, which was prepared by a panel of five doctors who had examined the body.

In September this year, the CBI had filed a closure report claiming that Dr Sachan had committed suicide by hanging. She added that the agency also did not probe into the content of letter which Dr Y S Sachan had written from inside the jail.

Shahi said Malti claimed the CBI has ignored the vital fact that being a doctor, Dr Y S Sachan was well aware as to on which vital vein/artery he had to inflict an injury which would result in death in the shortest possible time. He would not go for inflicting multiple cuts for committing suicide.

Dr Sachan was found dead in an unlit first-floor toilet of the jail late evening on June 22 last year. His body had eight wounds, and rested on the toilet seat, with his belt around his neck and the other end tied to the ventilator.

While the government said Dr Sachan had committed suicide, his family alleged that he had been killed to protect influential people behind the murder of the two CMOs, and demanded a CBI inquiry.
