'There have been a lot of players who had talents but they have not continued for a long time and that's what makes Sachin special.'

Paying tribute to Sachin Tendulkar on his reaching the milestone of 20 years in international cricket, former India captain Sourav Ganguly described the Mumbai maestro as the greatest batsman of his generation on Saturday.

"Probably Sachin is the best batsman I have seen. He just amazes me. He just keeps going on and on. We hope he carries on some more years," Ganguly, who was Tendulkar's one-time opening ODI partner, said.

"It's not just about talent but it's how you use talent that makes you special. There have been a lot of players who had talents but they have not continued for a long time and that's what makes Sachin special. He uses his talent to the most," said Ganguly.

Congratulating Tendulkar, who will complete 20 years of international cricket tomorrow, Ganguly said, "First I want to congratulate him on completing 20 years in international cricket which is phenomenal. Starting at the age of 16 and going on to play for 20 years with this intensity is unbelievable."

Having featured in more than 400 matches with Tendulkar, Ganguly said he had scores of memories with the Mumbai batsman since they met in Indore during a U-15 national camp.

"I have got a lot of memories. I met him for the first time in 1987-88. I had heard a lot about him. From the day one, I knew he was special," Ganguly said.

"I wish him all the best. I was really fortunate to play nearly 400 games with him," Ganguly said.

    ... contd.

Greatest for whatBy: vikram | 19-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward ponting is better. He plays all the shots that Tendulkar plays and at the same time contributes to the team when it matters the most. Steve Waugh is not remembered for all the runs he scored, but for the ones that he scored when his team was in dire straits. That's the stuff real champions are made of. Even when Sachin was at the height of his career, Lara was better than him.

@ real bhartiyaBy: siddharth | 15-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Duse....grow up...this is not a parameter to judge anyone...World cup is won by playing as a team.....batting, bowling and fielding.....but seems like you are falling for records. For the records, if Sachin is India, then no other team deserves to win world cup because he is the leading scorer in the history of world cup. Australia won every time because they have combined team effort as opposed to subcontinent teams who depend on individual performances...i m sure you would blame sachin for India losing out to Australia chasing 350....mate,,,,it is hardly we will see Sachin playing again in our lifetime...so shut up...sit back ...and enjoy the masters class!
India is 120 crore By: real bharatiya | 15-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Mr. Siddharth, If it is the case, than Lara was also the member of weak team & Lara batting average is not less than Sachin. we are 120 crore Indians & cannot produce 11 best players in the world. BCCI is the richets control board. If India wins, we should not surprise but if India defeats we should surprise. S/L is 20 times smaller than India & poor but better performance. & we are enjoying in defeating poor, small countries like S/L or Pak. Even is Aussie is not big country as far as population is concerned. Pls learn to u/stand cricket then argue.
Sachin greatest batsman of my generation: GangulyBy: Rohit Kumar | 15-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Nobody is clean. All have participated in match-fixing. By the way, the best way to bring the crowd back is to score match-winning innigs, unfortunately Tendulker does not draw the crowds. A man who selfishly scored 42 centuries while scoring only 16 of them match-winning. On top of that, not one century came out of his bat while chasing in second innings - not one. People who played little cricket knows very well what does it mean by chasing the runs. Pointing and Inzamam have 68% and 60% of winning centuries. Inzamam scored 18 winning centuries, 6 of them in second innings out 25. Pointing's record is more promising. He scored 68% of his match-winning innings in his captaincy only. That is a double acheivement. Our great Tendulker's average is only 30%. Google it. This is not a rocket science. As I said before, Tendulker is like Amitab Bachhan. Films after films, movies after movies. Advertising in Pan Masala to competing with far juniors. Where is the end?
