After sharing the joint lead position with two other players,Sachleen Singh not only displayed some great moves but also ensured he collected as many points as possible than the other two players who were also gunning for the title. In the end,a slender 0.5 point lead over the others paid rich dividends as Singh emerged champion in the boys' Under-15 category with 5.5 points during the Chandigarh Under-15 Boys and Girls and Under-9 Boys and Girls Chess Championship that concluded at St Xavier's School,Sector 44,on Sunday. Meanwhile,Simranjeet Kaur took the honous in the girls' Under-15 category despite sharing the same number of points (3.5) with Arunima Goyal. However,there was some good news for Arunima as she along with Simranjeet ( both of Sacred Heart School) and Tanya Kaushal (Sacred Heart School),Shivangi Raina have been selected to represent Chandigarh in the Sub-Junior Nationals for Girls to be held in New Delhi from September 4 to 12. Similarly,Sachleen,Anubhav Tuknayat,Gitin Oberoi and Tejas Nagpal will represent Chandigarh at the Sub-Junior Nationals to be held in New Delhi from September 4 to 12. In the boys' Under-9 category,Jaskeerat Singh Ahluwalia of DPS-40 was declared the winner after he collected 3.5 points. Tarini Goyal,with 3 points,took the honours in the girls' category. Jaskeerat and Pranay Garg have been selected to represent Chandigarh at Under-9 National Championship to be held in Gujarat from September 30 to October 9,while Tarini and Kashish Kaushal will represent city in the girls' category in the same championship.
