'Safe life initiative' will be officially launched by District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on October 9.
A collaborative effort of the Lokmanya Medical Foundation and US-based United Parcel Service, the safe life initiative aims at developing an information education communication material on road safety and undertake emergency management service (EMS) for college youth, said a press release.
Dr V G Vaidya, managing trustee of Lokmanya Medical Foundation said that a comprehensive EMS has been planned to bring down the number of road accidents.
Under this system mobile trauma and critical care units were launched and till date 25 ambulances have been providing services at high risk accident prone areas on the Mumbai Pune expressway – NH-4, Dahisar- Surat expressway and surrounding areas, the release said.
"The golden hour project' was launched by Dr Narendra Vaidya way back in 1996 and till date we have treated more than 50,000 accident victims,'' says Vaidya who points out that they will undertake a training programme for college youth . An EMS programme for autorickshaw drivers, school bus drivers and ambulance drivers to create a cadre of trained drivers has also been undertaken to facilitate the careful and safe transportation of road accident victims.
The inaugural function on October 9 to launch the initiative will be followed by a discussion to develop an understanding of the comprehensive EMS system.
A road safety and emergency preparedness at local level consortium will be set up. The hospital is also engaged in national disaster management. Vaidya added.
