Narayan Sai,son of self-styled godman Asaram,on Wednesday withdrew his anticipatory bail application filed against him in connection with a rape complaint. The move came after the doubts about genuineness of the signature on the bail plea. Sais lawyer sought permission to withdraw the application before a local court here. While giving the permission to withdraw the application, the court asked the police to carry out separate investigation into the signature issue and report the findings to the court before November 30. While passing the order, the Judicial Magistrate said that R A Munshi, who is investigating the case, should carry out a separate probe into the signature issue of Naryan Sai and report it to the court. Defence lawyer Kalpesh Desai, while seeking the permission for the withdrawal, informed the court that due to certain controversies, the bail plea is being withdrawn and a fresh one will be filed soon. Sai has gone underground after a rape case was lodged against him by a girl from Surat a couple of days ago. A few days ago,his lawyer had filed an anticipatory bail plea before Additional Session Judge P P Shahs court here. During the hearing, the district government pleader Nayan Sukhadwala had filed an application before the court questioning the genuineness of signature on the application filed by Sais lawyer. DGP Nayan Sukhadwala told the court that there is variation in signatures of Sai on his passport and on the anticipatory bail application. We are happy that the court ordered police to investigate into the issue of signature. If the defence lawyer files new application we will raise the issue of misconduct done by accused before the court, Sukhadwala added.
