Saina Nehwal is a doubtful starter for the Syed Modi Memorial India Open. On Tuesday, Saina was here to take part in a sponsored event but it is unlikely that she will take court. "There is a little bit of injury in my knee. In the past, I have played many tournaments with injury. But there are events such as the Korea Open and Malaysia Open early next year so I have to care of myself (fitness),"she said.
Meanwhile, the Badminton Association of India secretary Vijai Sinha insisted that the tournament's biggest star would certainly be seen in action. "Saina will be playing in the tournament. Her match is scheduled on Wednesday," he said.
But Saina continued to drop hints that about her possible no-show. "The international calendar is getting hectic. Being able to appear in international meets with good fitness is very important. It is very important for me to have a breather. I think my fans understand that. They will be more disappointed, if I do not do well at the international level."
