After a successful opening round, Selvadurai’s form deserted him and yesterday’s star performer slumped to a three over 75 in the second round of the RCGC Cup that is being played at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC). After today’s play, the tournament is now delicately poised with a three-way tie for the lead with Ashbeer Saini and HS Kang being the other two names on top of the leader board.

The most interesting story emerging from the RCGC Cup is that of young Saini, who is still playing in the B Category of the Junior Tour. Although he could only manage a 73 after firing a 69 in the first round, he is still part of the trio leading the tournament at this stage, and has really impressed everyone with his play. He said: “I am happy with this showing and hopefully I can finish the tournament in fine fashion.”

Experienced hand at the Amateur Tour, HS Kang, fired another round of one under par 71 to hold a share of the lead at the halfway stage of the ongoing event. Kang started off in fine fashion with a birdie on the first but followed it up with three bogeys on the front nine. “I was driving well off the tee. I was really struggling with my irons today,” Kang said after the day’s play.

But on the homeward stretch, Kang drained three birdies to shoot in the red and grab a share of the lead. He said: “Last year, there was a bit of a bad patch on the course, but this year the fairways are superb and the course is playing really well. The only regret so far is that I haven’t got an eagle on my card yet and hopefully I can manage that in the next couple of rounds.”
