THE Allahabad High Court on Monday refused to quash the FIR against former BJP MP Sachchinand Hari 'Sakshi Maharaj' in connection with a murder case.

ALLAHABAD: THE Allahabad High Court on Monday refused to quash the FIR against former BJP MP Sachchinand Hari ‘Sakshi Maharaj’ in connection with a murder case. Sakshi Maharaj, along with others,is accused of being involved in the murder of Sujata Verma, his disciple and a former school principal. The incident had occurred near the ashram of Sakshi Maharaj on April 15 in Etah district.

Disposing the petition of Sakshi Maharaj seeking quashing of FIR,a Division Bench of Justices Ravindra Singh and Anil Kumar Agarwal said on the basis of the allegations made in the FIR,a prima facie cognisable offence was made out. Therefore, there was no ground to interfere in the FIR,the court said.

Bar council can’t call strike

ALLAHABAD: Taking judicial notice of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh (BCUP) issuing strike calls on issues of protecting the interests of advocates, the Allahabad High Court has said that neither Bar Council of India (BCI) nor the BCUP,or any other such body, has the right to give a strike call. The court said that these bodies should,in fact, take disciplinary action against the advocates indulging in such strikes. The order, passed by a division bench of Justices Sunil Ambwani and Bharat Bhushan on Friday last week, became available on Monday.
