Salman Khurshid to meet Prime Minister today, will clarify stand

Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, who has strongly rebutted the charges made against him and his wife Louise by a private media group of misappropriation of funds allotted to their NGO, will be meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday amid demands for his resignation.

Addressing a press conference along with his wife Louise on Sunday, Khurshid asserted that the camps for the differently-abled, organised by the Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, headed by him, were held at different places in Uttar Pradesh.

Khurshid showed pictures of camps organized for the differently-abled persons in various places to refute allegations that the camps had not really been held.

He also showed a picture of an officer whose signatures were claimed to be forged by the Trust, attending one such camp.

Khurshid said after the trust approached the CAG regarding the comments against the NGO in its draft report, CAG asked them to furnish relevant documents and assured that their final report would be made only after consideration of the documents providing proof.

In a heated exchange of words between himself, his wife Louise and all those present at the press conference, Khurshid said he wanted to figure out why some people are different from others when it comes to the issue of media ethics.

Activist-turned politician Arvind Kejriwal, however, continued his attack against Khurshid by questioning the "evidence" produced by the Law Minister.

"He (Salman Khurshid) must have conducted a few camps but the majority of them didn''t take place... I question all the proof he puts out," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal alleged that the photographs shown by Khurshid were from 2010-11 fiscal.

"The photos he showed today do not come under the time frame. The allegations are about 2009-10. He has been caught," he claimed.

Kejriwal further said he would produce fresh evidence against the Law Minister on Monday.
