Samajwadi Party tells workers not to gatecrash private functions

Circular says sea of workers at such events create problems for the hosts.

After several incidents of Samajwadi Party workers gatecrashing into private functions, including weddings, to meet invited senior leaders and ministers, the ruling party has asked partymen to refrain from going to such events unless invited.

A circular was recently sent out by the party general secretary Ramgopal Yadav to all district presidents and presidents of the party's frontal organisations, it is learnt.

The circular says that SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and other ministers visit districts to attend private functions on personal invitations. It has been noticed that often party workers reach the venue of the functions, which creates hardship for the host and upsets the arrangements. Therefore, party workers should not attend such events, unless invited.

Rajendra Choudhary, SP's state spokesperson, said the workers want to meet their leaders, "but spoiling anyone's function cannot be allowed. We have issued instructions and soon feedback will be collected from districts. The instructions will be implemented. It is improper to attend any function without invitation."

Giving an example, a party source said that on November 28, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav went to Agra to attend the wedding of the daughter of Shiv Kumar Rathoure, Chairman of Small-Scale Industries Corporation. Accompanying their cavalcade, were hundreds of SP workers and local leaders, who reached the wedding. Such was the commotion that Akhilesh and Mulayam had to be escorted to a hall where entry was restricted.

From there, the Chief Minister went to attend another wedding in the family of a personal acquaintance. The army of SP workers followed him there too. However, since the venue here was comparatively smaller, the arrival of a large number of uninvited guests led to chaos. Outside, the police had a tough time managing the traffic, the source said.
