Same gotra marriage leads to deformed children: Khap

In a suggestion that the Bhanwala Khap is set to submit before the Supreme Court soon, it has claimed that a man who marries within his own, mother's or grandmother's gotra will have children born with deformities and would be more prone to life-threatening diseases. Moreover, if a man marries within the same gotra, it increases the possibility of one being infected by serious ailments and the effect would carry on till six generations.

These points were discussed by the members of the Bhanwala Khap in a meeting held in Jind on Monday.

The Bhanwala Khap also claimed that even in Hindu mythology, marriage within the same gotra and the six generations of mother's gotra is "completely prohibited". They now plan to come out with a book on the customs of Khaps in India, which will be widely marketed not only in India, but across the world.

Akhil Bhartiya Adarsha Jat Mahasabha state president, Dr Pawajit Bhanwala, said: "We have constituted a committee and will submit all these points to the Supreme Court. People are unnecessarily wrongly projecting the Khaps. Whatever we are saying is not only based on customs but also on science. The Vedas also prohibit marriage within the same gotra and in the gotra of the boy's mother."

"If the gotra-prohibition is followed, children would intelligent and wise. Marrying within the same gotras gives rise to various serious ailments. In such cases, not only the couple, but the children born to such couples also get more prone to life-threatening ailments." Bhanwala added.
