Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ‘phablet’ smartwatch Galaxy Gear launched in India

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been priced at Rs 49,900,while Galaxy Gear has been priced at Rs 22,990.

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled its much awaited Galaxy Note 3 ‘phablet’ and Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch in India.

The Galaxy Note 3 has been priced at Rs. 49,900,while the Galaxy Gear has been priced at Rs. 22,990. Both devices would go on sale from September 25. Pre-booking of the Galaxy Note 3 and smartwatch Gear also started on Samsung mobile e-store from today.

Customers would have the option to buy the Note 3 in monthly installments spread over a year.

Coming as the most expensive and high-end phone from the Korean mobile maker,Note 3 would have advanced S Pen which will not only enable user to make note on phone but also give access to various applications.

Weighing 168 gms,the Android-based 3 would have a 5.7 inch screen and 13 Megapixel camera.

The phone,which will be available in black,white and pink,has 3200 MAH battery which would give a back up of about 24 hrs.

“The Galaxy Note 3 represents the whole new evolution of the Galaxy Note experience. We have not increased width of the screen,but have increased the size of display,” Samsung Country Head (Mobile & IT) Vineet Taneja said.

Note 3 would be available in 3G version in India.

The Gear would be compatible with most of the Samsung Galaxy devises and the 10.1 tablet which the company would launch in October,Samsung Mobile Director Manu Sharma said.

Samsung will make available both Note 3 and Gear in 100 stores in Delhi,Mumbai and Bangalore from today.

Note 3 would have improved version of ‘Find My Mobile’ feature which will allow user to disable the phone when it is stolen or lost.

The KNOX would allow users to remotely track or erase the data from their lost or stolen Note 3 phone,Taneja said.

“Festival season is round the corner. So we will have buyback schemes for across portfolio.” he said.

Moreover,hundred devices are made available in 100 Samsung stores in three metro cities,which include Delhi,Mumbai and Bangalore for customers to have a look and feel the device before ordering.

Samsung,which is the world’s top handset maker,hopes the Galaxy Gear will boost the appeal of its range of Android-powered smartphones,as it battles to maintain supremacy against arch rival Apple Inc,which had launched iPhone 5 and iPhone C last week.

Samsung had unveiled these devices at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Berlin. The new Galaxy Note,which is slightly larger than its predecessor,is better equipped for multi-tasking,Samsung said,allowing users to open multiple frames at once. It also has a stylus,called the S Pen. The device has a 5.7 inch Super-Amoled screen and weighs 168 grams.

The phone will be available in jet black,classic white,and blush pink color options. Samsung has incorporated a 13 megapixel rear camera in its Note series product.

The Galaxy Gear,which has a 1.6-inch screen and weighs 2.6 ounces,has a 1.9 megapixel camera embedded in the strap and a built-in speaker that allows users to conduct hands-free calls. Besides photos and hands-free calls,it can perform functions like instant messaging.

The device,which will come preloaded with more than 60 apps,including a step-counting pedometer and S Voice,a voice-activated app akin to Apple’s Siri,can however not be used for composing emails or downloading music.

The Galaxy Note 3 will come pre-loaded with support for 11 regional Indian languages including Hindi,Punjabi,Bengali,Gujarati,Tamil,Telugu,Malayalam,Kannada,Marathi,Oriya and Assamese.

Samsung Note 3 buyers who are using Vodafone 2G services will get 2GB Internet per month free for two months on Vodafone 3G/EDGE/2G Networks. Buyers also get offers worth Rs 15,000 free and preloaded applications like Evernote,Dropbox and sketchbook pro. Through a special zone called Content Gifts within Samsung apps starting October,users can also enjoy offers on wide range of services like NY Times,Bloomberg Businessweek,Bitcasa,Oxford Dictionary and Angry Birds Star Wars 2.

Betting big on premium products to boost sales during the upcoming festival season in India,the company has already said that it is planning to launch several products the next three months including Note 10.1 in the last week of October.

Samsung will also launch two smart phones in India this month for less than Rs 15,000,intensifying competition in the mid-segment mobile market.

The Korean company,which has a 49 per cent share in India’s smart phone segment,will offer options in local languages to attract non-English speaking customers.

“We will be launching two new smart phones priced for the mid-segment market. Every phone from Samsung will have nine vernacular language options,” Samsung Country Head (Mobile Business) Vineet Taneja said,without mentioning the prices.

However,a company official said the phones may be priced in the Rs 5,000-15,000 range. Most mobile phones in India are sold in this price range,including Nokia Lumia 520 and 620,Blackberry Curve,Xolo smart phones and Micromax Canvas 2.
