The district consumer dispute redressal forum UT has directed Samsung India electronics Pvt Limited and Anmol Watches and Electronics, a shop in Sector 22, to pay a compensation of Rs 5,000 to a person, Manjit Singh, for causing him harassment and indulging in unfair trade practices.
They are also directed to refund him Rs 4,500 he spent on purchasing a mobile set.
As per the complaint lodged by Manjit Singh, he had purchased a mobile (SGH-E250) for Rs 4,500 from Anmol Watches and Electronics on March 21, 2008 .
After sometime when he failed to connect the internet with the mobile, he approached the shop on September 10, 2008, whose staff directed him to approach Samsung India Electronics Pvt Ltd at Sector 41-D, Chandigarh.
Singh went to Samsung India Electronics on September 12, where the staff took his cellphone and handed him a work order (WA 08102119), asking him to come after 10 days. When he went on September 22, he was told that the set would have to be sent to Delhi.
They called the complainant after a week. But when he went again, he found that the office had been shifted.
Manjit then approached the new office at Sector 22, where he was told to come after ten days as his cellphone had been lost during shifting.
When the complainant again visited after ten days, he was told to visit after a few days as his mobile could not be found.
