Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) head Manpreet Singh Badal today lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, perhaps for the first time in a high tone, for organising Sangat Darshan programmes with money loaned from the Mandi Board. Manpreet said it was unfortunate that the loaned money was being doled out to panchayats in the name of development, further straining the state exchequer.
Badal, who was here to inaugurate his partys office in Tarn Taran, said all 20 districts of the state would soon have PPP offices. He said Sangat Darshans were aimed at the next Assembly polls and there was little to check the misuse of money spent on them. He also held the SAD-BJP government responsible for the states failure to get the Rs 70,000-crore debt restructured from the Centre. The case was not properly put up before the Centre, which said no to it. It is a failure of the state government and its lawyers, he said.
Three local leaders Gulzar Singh Khalsa from BSP,SS Chahal from BJP and Sham Singh Sham from SAD today joined Manpreets party. He said his party was fully geared up for the next assembly elections due in February 2012 and that they had already crossed the membership of two lakh in just the last few days. We will keep the membership open till May end and then the partys internal elections through democratic ways would be held. The dedicated workers would get the keys posts,he said. He said his party is registered now and it will have its headquarters in Chandigarh. On the election agenda,he said corruption would be their primary agenda, apart from economic ills and strengthening the social fabric and general development issues.
When asked about Deputy CM Sukhbir Badals remark that if Manpreet was against family politics, why had he given a ticket to his father,Gurdas Badal, from the Lambi constituency,he said that only his father could take on the CM in the elections.
