Sarabjit’s release will cement Indo-Pak ties, says Sukhbir

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday said he was hopeful that Sarabjit Singh and other innocent Indian prisoners lodged in various Pakistan jails would be released soon. Addressing the media after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple, along with his wife and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Badal and brother-in-law, Bikram Singh Majithia, Sukhbir said he had raised the issue with Pakistan Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and pressed for the early release of Indian prisoners, who have completed their terms or are jailed for petty offences. The deputy chief minister asserted that the early release of Sarabjit and other prisoners would further cement Indo-Pak ties.

Earlier, while inspecting the progress of the Pedestrian Plaza being constructed at the Golden Temple, Sukhbir suggested that the plaza should have a pictorial display detailing the religious and cultural history of Sikhs. He asked Amar Behl, who conceptualised the pictorial display at Virasat-E-Khalsa, to submit a plan in this regard. He also asked the SGPC secretary to explore the possibility of holding a light and sound show on Sikh religion every evening. Meanwhile, speaking on their recent Pakistan tour, Bikram Singh Majithia said that besides the prisoner issue, the deputy chief minister made efforts to strengthen trade, commerce and sporting ties between the two countries.
