Chandigarh: Satluj Stunner CA Panchkula beat DAV College by four wickets in a match played during Vachitar Singh Memorial Cricket League tournament at the DAV Sector 8 ground in Chandigarh on Saturday. Batting first,DAV College posted a total of 100 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 29 overs. Ankit scored the highest 35 runs. From the bowling side,Mandeep Bhardwaj bagged three wickets. In reply,Satluj Stunner CA Panchkula chased the target in 28 overs,losing six wickets. Harshit (24) and Sanjeev (22) helped Satluj team record the triumph. From DAV team,Shubham bowled well to take four wickets.
Basketball trials tomorrow
CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Basketball Association will conduct trials for selection of Chandigarh men’s team that will take part in the1st All India Invitational basketball tournament to be held in Chandigarh from March 8 to March 12. The trials will take place at New Public School,Sector 18,Chandigarh,on March 4 at 6.00 PM.
Self-defense training on anvil
PANCHKULA: Martial Art School of Education (CMSE) is going to organise a 3-day special self defense training on the occasion of Womens Day for women from March 6 to March 8 at CMSE premises,SCO-193,2nd Floor,Sector 16,Panchkula. Master Bikram S. Thapa,5th Degree Black Belt (USA),will impart training to all the interested ones. The training will focus on the practical self defense. Especial lectures and demonstration will be given during the training hours. Registration process is on,and will expire on March 5.
Basketball tourney from March 8
CHANDIGARH: A total of eight teams will take part in the 1st All India invitational (flood light) basketball tournament for men to be held at Sports Complex,Sector 46 in Chandigarh,from March 8 to 12. The participating teams are Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai),Oil and Natural Gas Commission (New Delhi),Central Reserve Police Force (New Delhi),Punjab Basketball Association (Ludhiana),Punjab Armed Police Force (Jalandhar),Army Sports Control Board (New Delhi),Rail Coach Factory (Kapurthala) and Coaching Centre (Chandigarh). The tournament is being organised by Sports Department,Chandigarh Administration,under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India and Chandigarh Basketball Association. The winners will get cash prize of Rs 1,50,000 and runners-up will get Rs 75,000.
Hockey meet from March 6
MOHALI: The 26th Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival will be held at Hawks Stadium,Ropar,from March 6 to 10. A total of 12 teams from all over the country including Punjab Police,BSF,Signals,EME,Sikh Regiment Centre,Ramgarh,ITBP,Powercom,Rock Rovers Chandigarh,Punjab and Sind Bank Academy,Jalandhar,Sports Hostel Lucknow,Sports Authority of India,Bhopal,would participate in the five-day tournament.The winning team would receive a cash prize of Rs. 51,000 besides the winning trophy while runner up would get a cash prize Rs 31,000.
Golf programme from March 19
CHANDIGARH: A six-day golf coaching programme will be conducted at Forest Hill Golf and Country Club,Chandigarh,from March 19 to 28. The coaching programme will be held on March 19,20,21,26,27 and 28 between 5 to 6 pm. The purpose of the golf programme is to promote golf in the Tricity and to give opportunity to children,ladies and men to learn the basic of the game in a detailed manner from Ajay Gujral,golf coach. Basics like swing,hitting,grip,aim,alignment,stance,posture,chipping,will be taught during the coaching programme. Golf camp from March 16
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Golf Club will organise two-month long junior golf training programme from March 16 to May 12. The coaching programme is open for children,of both members as well as non-members, between the age group of 6 to 15 years. The camp will be conducted by coach Ajay Gujral on Saturdays and Sundays between 4pm to 5pm. The club will provide golf equipment,and all aspects of the sport will be covered in detail.
