The venue for wedding of Krishna Patel, one of the daughters of the family, has been decorated in a different style.
Instead of the auspicious ashoka leaves, marigold flowers and coloured festoons, the shamiana boasts of garlands of leaflets with the message of ‘Save the Girl Child.’
While the family has used government banners, which originally have photos of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, they are giving a personal touch to the message by replacing the photograph with that of the family members.
Arvind Patel said the birth of his daughters was God’s gift. “I am marrying off my daughter and wish to pass on the message to everyone that they are like a son to me. The number of girl children is reducing at an alarming rate and this problem has the entire country in its grab.”
He said his effort will not go in vain as “at least the 1,700 invitees who will attend the marriage will see the posters and think about it.” Someone may get inspired to take up the cause as well, he added.
Busy with her marriage preparations, Krishna, a graduate in business administration, said she did not miss the flowers and garlands, as she was proud of her family.
“I am overwhelmed to see my family taking up a noble cause in such a way,” she said.
