The CNN-IBN telecast of the “cash-for-votes” sting operation on Monday turned the spotlight on Sanjeev Saxena and Sohail Hindustani who figured in the tapes.
While not much is known about Hindustani, the BJP has been working overtime to provide “linkages” between Saxena and Amar Singh. In their July 24 letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, the BJP had thrown hints of Saxena’s links with Amar Singh. Now, the party says they had subsequently handed over much more “evidence” on him to the parliamentary panel.
The evidence the BJP has collected includes call detail records (CDRs) of Saxena’s mobile phone, which incidentally, is registered with the HFCL company.
The CDRs, available with The Indian Express, reveal that several calls were made from the telephone on July 22 to Amar Singh’s residence. The BJP has claimed Saxena was making these calls from 4 Ferozeshah Road, the residence of Ashok Argal where the cash was delivered to the BJP MPs. A number of other calls were made to mobile phones of other aides and secretaries of Amar Singh and a few to Saxena’s own residence.
The BJP has also alleged that the white Gypsy in which Saxena arrived at 4 Ferozeshah Road provides a useful Amar Singh link, since the vehicle belongs to Pankaja Arts and Credit, a company in which Amar Singh’s wife has a stake. The BJP has also claimed that Saxena’s son had submitted the address of Amar Singh’s official residence as his own for his college admission.
