  • The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Delhi Police to provide protection to a Muslim woman of Jammu and Kashmir whose Hindu husband was found dead in police custody in a case of alleged "honour killing" by the family of the woman.

The Court also posted to November 27 the woman's plea for a CBI inquiry into the death of her husband Rajneesh Sharma who was found dead at Munshi Bagh Police Station on October 5 this year after being picked up from his Jammu residence on September 30.

Responding to her plea, a bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph directed the Delhi police to provide necessary protection to Sharma's widow Anchal Sharma, alias Amina, who has moved the apex court seeking among other things seeking a CBI probe into her husband's death, transfer of the trial outside Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 50 lakh compensation for his death.

The apex court said the Delhi police would provide the widow all protection as and when she makes a formal representation and posted the matter for further hearing to November 27 when the plea for CBI probe is expected to come up.

Counsel Pinky Anand appeared on behalf of the widow and mentioned the matter before the bench.
