  • The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking a CBI probe into Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal’s alleged links with the underworld. A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran while turning down the petition filed by journalist M Furquan said there was no need to pass any further orders as the petitioner was given sufficient opportunity to take remedial action as per the law. Furquan had alleged that funds for Jet Airways were given by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel.

The petitioner had challenged the judgment of the Bombay High Court that dismissed a PIL alleging that Goyal had links with the underworld and this nexus could jeopardise national security. Senior counsel Shanti Bhushan said Goyal had illegally received huge investment from Dawood and used it to acquire assets for the company.
