SC raps Karnataka for not obeying CRA order

The CRA is headed by the Prime Minister. He is the highest executive.

Expressing its displeasure over Karnataka walking out of the meeting of the Prime Minister-headed Cauvery River Authority and refusing to comply with its mandate, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered the state to comply with the CRA’s directive to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu everyday till October 15.

“The CRA is headed by the Prime Minister. He is the highest executive. Nobody is ready to listen. Minister from Karnataka says that they cannot follow direction of CRA. It is an unfortunate state,” said a Bench led by Justice D K Jain.

Reminding Karnataka that it was not an ordinary meeting but one headed by the Prime Minister, the court said: “This is the order passed by a committee headed by Prime Minister. Have we reached to that state? We are very sorry for the kind of respect you have for the highest authority. This is not done. We direct you to follow the CRA order. Otherwise we will have to pass appropriate orders.”
