Ayodhya verdict on Sept 30: PM appeals for peace

Paving the way for the Allahabad High Court to deliver its judgement in the 60-year-old Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the plea for postponing the verdict in the controversial Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit case.

"Having considered in detail the arguments of the parties, we are of the view that the SLP (special leave petition) has to be dismissed. Accordingly, the SLP stands dismissed," said the apex court's 3-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia in a brief order.

The apex court, however, did not specify any reason for its decision nor did it fix any date for the judgement to be delivered by the Allahabad High Court.

With this, the way was paved for the High Court to give its judgement quickly in view of the fact that one of the judges of the three-member Bench, Justice D V Sharma, is to demit office on October 1.

Soon after the Supreme Court ruling, it came to light that the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court will pronounce the verdict on the 60-year old Ayodhya title suits on Thursday.

The Officer on Special Duty in the High Court, Hari Shankar Dubey said that the three-judge special Bench comprising Justice S U Khan, Sudhir Agarwal and D V Sharma would pronounce the verdict on Septemer 30 at 15.30 hours.

Amid apprehensions of trouble after the Ayodhya title suit verdict, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday appealed to the countrymen to maintain peace and harmony irrespective of the nature of the judgement.

"I think whatever be the nature of judgement, I think everyone should make every effort to maintain peace, harmony and tranquility in the country," Singh told reporters after releasing a book at his residence here.

Singh was asked about his message to the countrymen in view of the sensitive judgement on Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suits to be delivered by Allahabad High Court on Thursday.
