Portronics and portability appears to go hand-in-hand. A few months ago, they brought out Scanny,a picture-perfect handheld scanner on the move with quality scanning. This is the second model that Portronics has released and this one is a big improvement. It is easy to use, fits well into ones hand, has a user friendly interface with large buttons and offers PC free scan.
Scanny 2 is a sturdy device with a non-glossy black body. It has an extensive interface with a monochrome LCD panel hemmed with five control keys to scan from the device itself. There is a micro SD card slot on the right and a USB2.0 port on the left, and are clearly demarcated in orange. The battery panel is at the bottom, housing four AA batteries. The device can also run without batteries, but for that it needs non-stop power backup through its USB charger.
The switch On/Off,also in orange,is placed adjacent to the LCD panel. The LCD panel has two keys on the left and three on the right. Left includes Effects button and dpi 600/300 select button. On the right hand you have a format key, timer key and,the biggest of all,an arrow key to return to USB mode when connected with a PC. USB is instantly detected on a PC and doesnt require any software installation. One DVD,available with the pack, has Abby Screenshot Reader in it.
The LCD display shows the number of scans done from Scanny 2 along with other settings like effect (Colour & B/W),battery strength and dpi. The scanner slot automatically detects a leaf and scans an A4 within 5 seconds on both dpi high and low. It can also scan A5,5R,4R and 3R size forms. All it needs is proper alignment with its stretchable frame. The document is put face down and in case you are scanning a 4×6 inch photograph,a transparent PVC jacket can be used to protect it from getting spoiled. Scanning a colour photo takes 3 seconds, even if it is done with the PVC jacket over it.
In order to view the scanned files on the Micro SD card, simply connect to a PC via USB 2.0 and press the arrow button to view the scanned files in JPEG format. The scan quality is really good and equals professional standards. Micro SD card slot allows cards from 2 GB to 32 GB and can be formatted from Scanny 2 by simply pressing the F button and the arrow key.
Scanny 2 is a power saving device,as it switches off automatically after three minutes of inaction and also includes a cleaner pad. At 7k,it will not appeal to everyone, but Scanny is priced only 1k lesser and has only 16 GB to Scanny 2s 32 GB card size. Scanny 2 accepts multiple paper size and delivers high quality scan making it a valued device for professionals on the move.
