Scheme for domestic gas portability launched

The ministry of petroleum & natural gas on Friday launched a scheme offering portability for domestic cooking connections.

The scheme will enable customers to change their dealers if they are not satisfied with their distributor. The ministry has successfully completed the pilot project in Chandigarh.

"LPG distributor (dealer) portability is being launched today in Chandigarh and will be extended to at least 25 more districts in the next fiscal," oil minister M Veerappa Moily told reporters.

Customers will now be able to rate the dealer base on the services provided by them. Distributors will be penalised if their services are found to be faulty. R S Butola, chairman , Indian Oil Corporation, said, "We will be taking action against dealers depending upon their rating."

Simultaneously, the ministry launched 'Lakshya' project where the customers are given online choice to refill booking, register complaints and rate distributors, among others. Customers can also access these facilities through mobile devices.
