  • To curb pilferage of food grain from the Public Distribution System, Food and Civil Supplies department has decided to launch three new schemes in the state.

While the department has decided to ensure computerisation of BPL and Antyodaya ration cards by October 31, it will also launch food coupons along with the ration cards based on models adopted in Bihar and Rajasthan. Moreover, the department also plans to adopt “doorstep delivery system”.

These decisions were announced at a workshop organised by the department, where experts from different parts of the country participated.

Talking to The Indian Express, a senior department official said: “Work is in progress to find a tamper and copy-proof printing technology for food coupons. We are also trying to find out the best model for computerisation of ration cards.”
