The Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation system started by the CBSE from Class I onwards has made the teachers much more accountable than ever. But there will be discrepancies at the teachers’ end. This is what the school principals of different schools affiliated to CBSE foresee ash they discussed the CBSE examination reforms and continuous comprehensive evaluation at BCM School, Chandigarh Road.

Talking to Newsline, Harmeet Kaur Waraich, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, said, “This system has increased the responsibility of principals mani-fold if they want to implement it properly. And the accountability of teachers has also increased. But it is a matter of grave concern that many of the teachers are not aware as how to evaluate a child on different parameters in an objective way. So the chances of discrepancies at the end of teachers will always remain there.”

While another principal said, “Suppose a teacher is not having good rapport with a student and while evaluating him/her on the basis of social and emotional parameters, the teachers would not be able to do justice to that student. And moreover if a teacher gives “D” grade to a student in non-scholastic area, she will have to convince the parents of wards as to why she had given “D” grade to the ward.”

RS Patial, principal of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, said, “I think it is a very good system if implemented properly. If a teacher gives “C” grade to a student, it will not be final as a group of five-six teachers teaching other sections will also decide whether the grade given to a child is right or wrong. The system will also improve teacher-taught relationship as there are many grades to be given by the teachers in co-scholastic areas based on emotional and social parameters.”
