The authorities of the St John’s school have blamed the education department for intervening in the internal matters of the school in the obscenity case against a school teacher.
Meanwhile, the complainant T K Goyal failed to submit any evidence to the school or the authorities, despite repeated reminders.
Refusing to succumb under any pressure from the department, the school, in a letter sent to the district education officer, denied that they failed to act on the matter. In a letter dated November 9, the department has asked the teacher Michaelangelo Francis to appear before the DEO on November 11. “The letter was received by the school on November 11 at 12.56 pm while the newspapers had this information on November 9 itself,” reads the reply.
The school claimed that the reason for directing Francis to appear in person was that the department felt the school had failed to submit their report on the matter within two days as directed.
“The letter dispatched by the department on November 5 was received by the school on November 6. A meeting of the managing committee was held the next day regarding the same where it was decided that T K Goyal be given another opportunity to produce evidence and respond to the allegations made by Michaelangelo,” the spokesperson of the school said.
The school claimed that they had sent a letter to the department on Monday apprising them about the inquiry that was underway. A copy of the letter was also sent to the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions.
