A Local schoolgirl who fell unconscious after being made to stand under the hot sun for failing to pay the fees on time, and had to be rushed to the hospital, is now reported to be out of danger.
Purshottam Joshi, a teacher of Saraswati School in Pandeara had punished Arti Shukla and her two classmates for not paying the fees on time. The three girls were ordered to stand outside the classroom for four hours. The incident had occurred on Wednesday.
Joshi refused to hear the students’ pleas that they would pay the fees the next day. He also did not pay heed to Arti’s repeated pleas that she was ill and could not take the punishment any longer.
Arti finally fell down unconscious and the school staff rushed her to a nearby hospital. She was later shifted to the ICU of Bharti Maiya Hospital in Bhatar, where she remained in a critical condition for two days.
She told The Indian Express from the hospital that her classmates had tried to persuade the teacher to spare them for a day after they promised to pay the fees the next day. Her classmate Khushbu Chauhan said
the teacher used filthy language when they asked for a day’s time.
Arti’s father Keshri Prasad Shukla, a local cloth merchant, said: “Arti had told me that she needed to pay the fees, but I had promised to give her the money the next day.”
School Principal Jayenti Panchal said only the school management could take action against the erring teacher, adding that the teacher had left the town after the incident.
