"The presence of a local authority, be it a corporator or a local politician, will lend a political colour to the committee. We don't want that to happen," he added.
On the other hand, Pramila Prasannan, executive head, Podar Jumbo Kids School, said, "At this stage, it is very important for schools to have a transport committee. We conduct regular meetings through which we get to understand the perspective of parents, teachers and other members of the committee."
Anil Garg, president of School Bus Owners Association, said the transport committee must have representatives only from the school, parents association and bus operators. "It is not feasible to have representatives from police, traffic department, RTO and local corporators. Schools already have a committee comprising principal, PTA representative and school bus operators," he noted.
It is mandatory for the Committee to meet at least once in three months and before commencement of a semester. It is required to verify documents like registration certificate, certificate of fitness, certificate of insurance, permit, and pollution certificate.
