Scooty found at Kazmi house is focus of police probe

Delhi Police are banking on a scooty that they recovered from the house of Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi as a major piece of evidence against the Urdu journalist who was arrested on charges of allegedly helping a foreign module carry out an attack on the Israel embassy’s car carrying a diplomat’s wife a month ago.

Police said the scooty was their main piece of evidence against Kazmi, though they were tightlipped about its role in the attack. They said the scooty was used by the Iranian bomber who fled the country following the blast.

Police said they have got the details of the Paharganj hotel where the Iranian had stayed before the blasts.”The scooty originally belonged to a local identified as A Irani and Kazmi had bought it from him. The motorcycle used by the accused to stick the explosives on the embassy officials’ vehicle had been sold thrice,” a police officer said.

The scooty, which has a Haryana registration number plate, had been parked at the B K Dutt Colony residence of Kazmi for the past two months, his family had said earlier. On Friday, his elder son Shauzab said the scooty was purchased about two years ago by his uncle who was a kidney patient and was using it for visits to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. “My uncle then left the scooty and since then it has been lying here,” he said.

Police said after his arrest Kazmi had become “reticent” and was not cooperating with the investigators.

“Our operation is still on and we are on the lookout for some more people involved in the case. It will take a few more days to complete the probe,” said the officer.

Police said they had enough evidence that Kazmi accepted money to provide information regarding the movement of the Israeli diplomat to his associates.

“The information about the movement of the Israeli diplomat was disclosed to the members of a foreign group by Kazmi and he used to receive money for the same. He knew about the plan but did not know the exact time and date of the explosion. He told us that there was not much significance of the date of the explosion,” said the officer.
