Though its only the last week of February, the city is already feeling the heat with the maximum temperature rising up to 35 degree Celsius. The maximum and minimum temperatures have risen above the normal levels by 4 degrees.
The city has remained cool during February till recent times. However,in the last two years, the city has experienced a summer-like situation from the second week of February itself. Though the change is significant, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) says it cannot be attributed to specific reasons.
On Tuesday, maximum temperature was recorded at 35.8 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature at 16.7 degree Celsius too was above normal by 4.
The present rise in temperature may be attributed to anti-cyclonic conditions prevailing in the middle level of the atmosphere. Temperature increases due to the downward motion of these anti-cyclonic winds, said Medha Khole, director (weather section) of IMD,Pune.
She said that though the heat has started earlier than normal,no specific reason could be attributed. The pattern of rise in temperature changes every year. At this stage we cannot say anything specific, she said. The IMD has predicted light rains in the city over next two days. It is due to the cyclonic circulation in the lower atmospheric level created in interior Karnataka. Rains are predicted in many parts of the state too,but they will not be heavy, said Khole.
