‘Scribes shot at by CRPF’

A group of journalists Monday alleged that CRPF men fired at them while they were covering the march to Sopore.

A group of journalists Monday alleged that CRPF men fired at them while they were covering the march to Sopore.The journalists said they held up their cameras and notepads and kept shouting “Press… Press” but CRPF men kept abusing them and fired two bullets in their direction.

They ran for cover through the swampy paddy fields only to be shot at again. No one,however,was hurt.

“I never thought they would shoot at us from so close. They could even see our press cards but when they fired the first bullet,I just ran. I was thinking which one of us had been killed now,” said Zubair Ahmad,a senior reporter with Conveyor,a local magazine .

A TV reporter who was part of the group said he was lucky to be alive. “I want to go back now. They mean to kill us. I have a wife and two little children. I know why they fired,” he said.
