Scuffle at Mansa Devi shrine, priest injured

High drama prevailed at Mansa Devi Shrine on Sunday, when a scuffle broke out between the chief executive officer of the shrine board D P Dattana and shrine priest,Inderjeet.

High drama prevailed at Mansa Devi Shrine on Sunday, when a scuffle broke out between the chief executive officer (CEO) of the shrine board D P Dattana and shrine priest,Inderjeet. The priest, allegedly roughed up by the CEO and his supporters, had to be admitted in a private nursing home with a dislocated shoulder.

The employees of the shrine board, thereafter, staged a dharna demanding action against Dattana and another member of the shrine board,M S Malik.

An eyewitness said: “The trouble began when Dattana spotted Inderjeet leaving the temple complex with a handbag around 1 pm on Sunday. Suspecting that the priest had stolen prasad,Dattana stopped him, following which an argument ensued between the two. Malik reached the spot and hit Inderjeet, who sustained a dislocated shoulder.”

Admitting that he had stopped the priest,Dattana claimed that he had only asked Inderjeet to distribute the ‘prasad’ among devotees, instead of taking it home.

“Inderjeet felt offended and started misbehaving with me. Malik and others just tried to save me from being hit by the priest,” said Dattana, adding that the priest sustained injuries after falling on the ground.

Another temple priest Sunderlal, however, claimed he was a witness to Malik attacking Inderjeet.

“The CEO unnecessarily created a scene, just because Inderjeet was carrying some fruits.”

The DC is expected to hold a meeting with the priests of the shrine board on Monday. An enquiry has been marked into the case.
