SD College organises national symposium on biotech

Experts speaking at a symposium organised in SD College,Sector 32C,here on Saturday said more tests should be conducted on Bt brinjal before introducing it in the market. The Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry of SD College organised the one-day national symposium on ‘Biotechnology: Innovations and Challenges’. It was sponsored by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

Prof K K Bhutani,Director,NIPER Mohali,inaugurated the symposium. In his address,he emphasised on future research prospects in the field of science and technology.

Prof G S Randhawa from the Department of Biotechnology,IIT Roorkee,delivered the keynote address. Dr Suneel Khanna,head of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics,NIIT University ,Rajasthan,stressed upon the degradation or transformation of contaminants by micro-organisms,which could be a safe and economical alternative to traditional methods of remediation.

Faculty members,research scholars and students from nearby institutes and organisations participated in the programme. Principal Dr A C Vaid conveyed his best wishes to the organising committee.
