It's time to throw words like ‘recession’, ‘understated look’ and ‘somber mood’ out of the window. For none of that seems to hold true when it comes to the fashion trends, particularly jewellery, for the season. While leading brands and designer labels are dishing out all that sparkles and shines, the fashionable set aren’t cutting corners either when it comes to splurging on their baubles. In the words of socialite and jewellery designer Queenie Singh, “timelessness, bling and style are the ruling trends in jewellery this season.” Therefore, it’s not surprising to find diamonds making a bigger than ever comeback this year pushing all-gold jewellery back into the locker! It’s the time to experiment with designs, bring in lots of colour and pair it with a girl’s best friend! “All that put together is statement jewellery. It could be one huge cocktail ring or a cuff or bracelet or just a pair of chandelier earrings,” explains Queenie who recently launched her Jewels by Queenie collection for Autumn-Winter 2009. Comprising of contemporary styled pieces with the use of precious and semi-precious stones, the collection says Queenie is for the “fabulous and avant-garde women.” “I have also designed classic style diamond jewellery which is also a huge trend this time. Fine diamonds have been accentuated with coloured precious as well as semi-precious stones. Like I said it’s time to flaunt colour,” quips Singh.
Given the fact that Diwali is around the corner bringing with it festivities, the jewellery collections launched are to match the mood. At Gitanjali Jewels, the all-new ‘Parineeta’ range, endorsed by actor Kareena Kapoor makes the most of diamonds best suited for a bride to be. “Brides no longer shy away from choosing all-diamond sets with a hint of coloured stones for their D-day. These days, it’s fast becoming the done thing,” mentions Deepak Gupta owner of the Gitanjali store in Panchkula’s Sector 9 as he adds how engagement rings have progressed from being all-gold bands to those with solitaires set with rubies and emeralds.
