In a move to let investors have access to more information about companies, credit rating agency Crisil launched Independent Equity Research (IER) reports on Tuesday. Securities and Exchange Board of India chairman C B Bhave who launched the research tool said that listed entities should disclose sufficient information to the market to ensure transparency in their functioning.
Through IER reports, Crisil will provide independent assessments on the fundamentals and valuations of listed Indian companies. Crisil IER will seek to address the two important parameters in the investment process: fundamentals (Fundamental Grade), and valuation (Valuation Grade).
“The regulator would focus on those listed companies, who are not ready to share sufficient information to independent research firms,” Bhave said at the launch. He said that investors must look at equity research reports with the knowledge that who has commissioned the report. “As we advance, with more access to information, we need to improve the methodology of working. The availability of research reports on small and mid cap companies will help to improve the liquidity in the market,” Bhave said.
