Second patient on ventilator in Pune

Three days after Reeda Shaikh's death in Pune,the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune confirmed that a 35-year old H1N1 victim has been moved to the ICU.

Three days after city girl Reeda Shaikh became the country’s first H1N1 casualty,the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune today confirmed that a 35-year old man,who tested positive for the swine flu virus,had been moved to its intensive care unit and was on a ventilator.

The patient,a pharmacist from the Hadapsar area of the city,is in critical condition. He was admitted to a private hospital in Hadapsar on Wednesday and a sample sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing.

“The patient has a heart ailment and has now tested positive for the H1N1 virus. He was admitted at 8.30 pm to the quarantine ward that was set up only today,” said Dr Arun Jamkar,Dean of Sassoon General Hospital. “The condition of the patient is critical but stable and a team of doctors are now treating him.” Relatives of the patient could not say how he contracted the virus.
