The second phase of Census 2011, was launched in Jammu and Kashmir today with Governor N N Vohra being the first to be enumerated.

Around 30,000 trained enumerators have been deployed in this phase, which will conclude on February 28.

A team of census officials headed by the state Director of Census Operations Farooq Ahmad called upon the Governor and his wife Usha Vohra to launch the second phase of the census.

The Governor replied to the queries of the census officials, filled up the requisite forms and recorded his signatures thereon.

Ahmad also briefed Vohra about arrangements made for enumerating the nomadic population in their temporary habitats.

Vohra stressed the need for an accurate census as it acts as a valid database for planning and formulation of Central and state government policies.
