The CBI chargesheet states that Barjinder allegedly tried to blackmail two councillors of the Moga Municipal Council to support his party in the election of the party president in 2007. The post of the president of the Moga municipal council was vacated following the resignation of then Congress leader Joginderpal Jain — SAD candidate in the February 23 Moga bypoll — who was elected as the MLA from Moga.
The CBI chargesheet adds that Barjinder threatened to get these two booked in a false rape case with the help of the local police. Later, however, when the elections resulted in Jain's wife becoming the president, Barjinder allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from the two councillors to let them escape rape charges.
Barjinder, however, has always maintained that he had been framed and the case was a result of political vendetta.
