The state government is on its way to revamp the security of the Secretariat and the Annexe, which houses Chief Minister Mayawati’s office. It plans to install high-tech gadgets, surveillance and access control systems and also provide state-of-the-art weapons to the security staff.
The state government has allocated Rs 60 crore for this purpose in the supplementary demands for the current year. It was passed by the Assembly on Tuesday. Of this amount, Rs 57.4 crore is allotted for the purchase and installation of the new equipment. The security plan also covers Vidhan Sabha, Bapu Bhawan, Janpath and the Yojna Bhawan.
The Secretariat administration, in coordination with the Security and the Intelligence headquarters of the Uttar Pradesh Police, has drafted a security plan, keeping in mind the arrangements at the Parliament building in New Delhi.
J N Chamber, Principal Secretary of Secretariat administration, said: “The security plan is ready and will be implemented soon after the government releases the funds.”
The administration has already placed orders for the purchase of 81 CCTV cameras worth Rs 6 lakh each. A total of 250 such cameras are required for the five buildings.
A K Gupta, SP (Vidhan Sabha security), said: “Gadgets are required for access control at the building entrances. Once this is done, CCTV cameras and security personnel would take care of rest of the security arrangements.”
The access control equipment to be bought in the first phase include boom barriers, flap barriers, road-blockers, tyre killers, radio frequency identification readers (RFIR) and under-vehicle surveillance devices.
