Security stepped up at Gahunje stadium for tomorrow’s T20

Security has been beefed up at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium at Gahunje for the international T20 match to be played between Indian and England on Thursday. "Over 500 cops will be deployed at the stadium during the match. Besides, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) will be deploying private security guards to strengthen the security arrangements during the match," said Manoj Lohiya, Superintendent of Police, Pune (Rural), at a press conference on Tuesday.

Lohiya appealed to the citizens to be alert and inform the police about any suspicious object or person during the match. Lohiya said a proper security plan has been outlined. Special security arrangements are being done for the players and VVIPs who would be visiting the stadium.

MCA chairman Ajay Shirke said the entire cricket stadium is under CCTV surveillance. He said 11 sniffer dogs will be pressed into service during the match. "We have 26 trained sniffer dogs. Of these, 11 will be deployed for the match," he said.

Police have appealed to the people to follow the instructions given by the police, particularly related to the parking and roads to be used to reach the stadium. Police said the stadium will be open for public from 4 pm onwards.
