There was a sudden increase in security activities around the Chabad House,Osho Commune and Hotel Taj Blue Diamond in the city on Friday evening, six days after the German Bakery blast.
Heavy security arrangements were being made around these three spots, said to have been surveyed, along with the German Bakery,by terror suspect David Coleman Headley during his Pune visit. Since 5 pm,bunkers were being apparently erected at strategic spots in Koregaon Park area. Huge police force was deployed in and around the Chabad House and Osho Commune. A Quick Response Team (QRT) was specially deployed at Chabad House.
Entry and exit points of roads to the Osho Commune were barricaded and vehicles not allowed to take a right turn from the North Main Road towards Osho Commune.
A police van was deployed near Hotel Taj Blue Diamond. The policemen checked all vehicles going towards the Osho Commune and other spots in Koregaon Park area.
Senior police officers, including two Deputy Commissioners of Police, were on the spot for monitoring arrangements. Asked why security was being stepped up at these spots,no police official at these spots was willing to comment.
However, sources said it was a general preventive measure,as the spots were potential targets but there was no new threat to Chabad House or the Osho Commune.
Initially,a few policemen had said that the state Director General of Police A N Roy would visit the Chabad House and Osho Commune, due to which security was being increased. Later, they said Roy had cancelled his visit.
There were some rumours about threats being received.
Osho Commune spokesperson Amrit Sadhana said they had not received any threat. People should not give importance to rumours, she said.
Rabbi Bztalel Kupchik of Chabad House said,There is no threat. There are a lot of policemen in and around Chabad House. We are expecting the visit of a senior police officer.
