See saw: Melodies for Shravan

To celebrate the season of rain, festivities and celebrations of Shravan, Abhinav Group had organised a Musical-Cultural program titled Abhinav Shravan on August 4 at Mahalakshmi Lawns. Conceptualised by Actor Rahul Solapurkar, the program featured renowned singers like Madhura Datar, Chaitanya Kulkarni and Sai Tembekar. 'Rutu Hirva Rutu Barva', 'Ghan Ghan Mala', 'Shravant Ghan Nila Barasala', 'Deewana Hua Baadal', 'Oh Sajna Barkha Bahaar Ayee', 'Saawan Ka Mahina' and more enchanted the audiences under freshness of the open sky. Dancer Sharvari Jeminis presented two special performances 'Kajree' and 'Barso Re' while comedians Banda Joshi and Makarand Tillu tickled some funny bones with satires on the condition of roads in Monsoon. Rahul Deshpande presented a poem 'Shravan ani Maitrin'. The event concluded with a reading of a passage Durgabai Bhagwat's Rutuchakra by actress Bhargavi Chirmule.

Filmy Tributes

Continuing their ongoing celebrations of marking the 100 years of Indian Cinema, the Aashay Film Club along with the FTII and the NFAI will be screening a total of 42 films that have won the Dadasaheb Phalke Best Film award. Satish Jakatdar, of the Aashay Film Club says, "The movies will be screened on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at the Archive Theatre of the National Film Archives of India (NFAI. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) will be partnering us in this endevour." The fest, which begins on August 13 will see the inaugural film 'Dream Takes Wings' by Gajanan Jagirdar screened at the NFAI theatre. In addition as Jakatdar mentions films like Achhut Kanya that stars Devika Rani and Ashok Kumar, Satyajit Ray's Apur Sansar, BR Chopra's Dhool Ka Phool, Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Musafir are some of the films that will be screened. "Given the fact that this is the 100 th year of Indian Cinema and that Dadasaheb Phalke was the one who made the first motion picture we are honouring his memory through these films."
