Serial blasts accused Zia-Ur-Rehman appealed to Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday to let him take the annual examinations in the university. The appeal comes days after his sister wrote to the university to let Rehman appear for his final examination, to be told that he has been under suspension since last September 22.
Rehman’s advocate M S Khan said neither he nor his family members were served the suspension orders. He said the family assumed there would be no hurdles since the varsity had offered him legal aid.
According to Rehman’s appeal, filed before Jamia’s Majlis-i-Muntaziah (executive council), his family members got no response from the university even after several visits to the varsity after the examination dates were announced.
In a letter dated April 9, Rehman’s sister wrote to the university registrar to request for an admit card but the university, the applicant’s family claims, did not respond. Subsequently, they filed the appeal today.
Rehman was a BA final-year student when he was arrested, days after the serial blasts in Delhi last September 13. University officials could not be contacted.
