“There has been no work under the NREGS in those areas. Our supporters just demanded their share of the work, when CPIM cadres started to fire and hurl bombs at us,” said Ansar Ali, a local Congress leader.
A recent government report on NREGS said that in 2008-09, only 22 per cent of the job-seekers were provided with jobs in the state under the scheme. In Rajasthan, the figure stood at 60 per cent.
