The Sehajdhari Sikh Federation will challenge the Centre in case it files a review in regard to the withdrawal of the 2003 notification, whereby Sehajdharis were allowed to vote in SGPC elections. Dr P S Ranu, national president of Sehajdhari Sikh Federation, said on Sunday that voting rights for Sehajdhari Sikhs is a legal and technical issue pertaining to the amendment in the Sikh Gurudwara Act-1925 formulated by the Union Home Ministry in 2003 merely on the recommendation of a SGPC resolution. The same was challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Sehajdhari Sikh Federation and after eight years, justice was delivered when the matter was disposed off on September 1,he added. Ranu further said: The voting rights of Sehajdhari Sikhs was restored. But unfortunately, the Union Home Ministry made a u-turn and the home minister claimed in the Parliament that the standing counsel was not their counsel and was not directed by the government to withdraw the impugned notification. The high drama by the standing counsel, where he received a phone call but did not know who had called and directed him to withdraw the notification seems to be astonishing.
