Eclipsing Brain Lara's record of 11,953 runs to become the highest run-getter in Test cricket has catapulted Sachin Tendulkar back to the top 20 Test batsman, according to the latest ICC players ranking released on Wednesday.

Tendulkar had slumped to the 24th spot before the second Test against Australia, his lowest in 15 years but in Mohali, the 35-year-old proved that he was not finished yet and his innings of 88 and 10 not out saw the master blaster improve his position to 19th.

Gautam Gambhir's innings of 67 and 104 saw him surge eight places to 29th, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni, under whose captaincy India clinched the second Test in Mohali, moved seven places to 37th.

Retiring left-hander Sourav Ganguly, who hit a century in the first innings of the second Test, improved two places to 23rd. Also Virender Sehwag's good show with the bat saw him move into the top 10 at the 10th position.

However, lacklustre performance of seniors like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman saw them lose ground in the latest rankings.

Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who scored just seven runs in the match, slipped one place to fifth, while teammate Michael Hussey was dethroned from his No. 1 perch to third place.

His place was taken by West Indies stalwart and ICC Cricketer of the Year Shivnarine Chanderpaul with Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka moving up to second.
