Virender Sehwag met DDCA officials late last night.

The week-long battle between Virender Sehwag and the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) is likely to come to an end after a marathon three-hour meeting at DDCA president Arun Jaitley’s residence on Monday night.

Sources indicated after the meeting that the Delhi captain had been persuaded to stay back, with a promise that most of his and the players’ demands would be looked into.

The meeting, according to sources, was attended by Sehwag, the three vice-presidents — CK Khanna, Chetan Chauhan and Suresh Chopra — as well as DDCA secretary SP Bansal and sports secretary Sunil Dev.

A cricket committee, made up of senior former cricketers, is also likely to be appointed to take charge of a clean-up operation in the association.

Last week, Sehwag had threatened to quit the Delhi Ranji side and move on to some other state, lashing out at the DDCA top brass over nepotism and other selection malpractices .

“There is too much interference and manipulation from the sports committee in selection committees,” he had said. “The sports committee has got too much power. In a squad of 15, for instance, the sports committee tries to influence the selectors and slip in one or two of ‘their own’ boys.”

A day later, he was joined by Team India colleagues Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra, all of whom threatened to walk out with Sehwag if their demands were not met. Among other things, the players had asked for a revamp of the selection panel, and the setting up of a cricket committee.

    ... contd.
